UNESCO World Heritage
Climats of Burgundy's Vineyards

The candidature of the vineyards of Burgundy to be part of UNESCO World Heritage is based on the unique nature of its terroirs, locally called climats.

To inscribe in UNESCO World Heritage the "climats if the vineyards of Burgundy", such is the international scope project being fomulated together by the great winemaking family and the municipalities of Dijon and Beaune.

In Burgundy, it is the climates that have shaped the landscapes and the village and urban communities.
They have generated a remarkable economy that they more than ever continue to stimulate.
As fort the municipalities of Dijon and Beaune, historic seats of power political, economic and cultural, of the climats of the vineyards of Burgundy, they bear the traces of their eternal links with the vineyard.
The universal and exceptional value of this ensemble is obvious.

It will be presented to UNESCO as a "cultural site", a combined work of mankind and nature and a worldwide example of the viticulture of terroir.

It is this evidence that has been acknowledged by the National Committee for French Possessions in World Heritage, in confirming the "Burgundy dossier" in April 2009 on the list of possessions to be presented by France to UNESCO for the years to come.
